Every state and territory in the United States has a transport electrification future in front of it and stakeholders will be faced with a wide variety of decisions and dimensions in planning and preparing for this future. An important initial step in this process is estimating the amount, types, and potential locations of chargers that will be needed, and determining the impacts for the electric grid.

The Office of Electricity’s Planning Considerations for Electric Vehicles State Reports introduced important electric vehicle planning concepts and provided sample results from two DOE self-service analysis tools, EVI-Pro Lite and Energy Zones Mapping Tool (EZMT). The tools, which can be accessed free of charge, allow users to estimate the amount and type of EV chargers, view electricity load projections that reflect various EV adoption scenarios, and creatively explore abstract planning scenarios.
